I want to remind everyone of one other thing. The apostle Paul's words in
Galatians 4:9-11
But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again
to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?
10. Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.
11I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.
and Colossians 2:16
16. Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday,
or of the new moon, or of the sabbath [days]:
17. Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [is] of Christ.
18. Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping
of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
19. And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered,
and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
20. Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world,
are ye subject to ordinances,
21. (Touch not; taste not; handle not;
22.Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments
and doctrines of men?
23. Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.
I do not think that anyone should feel condemned if they wish to observe any holiday that gives God the glory. I believe that the key here is to walk in the Liberty of holiness being an example of those that "mortify the deeds of the flesh, that is, fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry. For which things' sake the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience." (Col. 3:5-6)
We should be reminded that we once walked in these things, but have now put them off. So what ever the holiday that is before us, let us always be ready to meet the Lord and be found in Him doing the good works that he has prepared for us to do. It is to our benefit that we wisely use these events to give the Gospel of Jesus Christ a voice.
Free in Christ,
